Two-Stroke Engine Working & Why Two-Stroke are not in use?

Basic Information Of Two-Stroke Engine

Two stroke engine is an internal combustion engine which works on Otto cycle. It works on Otto Cycle.Two-Stroke engine produced more power as compare four-stroke engines.Yamaha RX-100/135 is the best example of two-stroke engine.

Fig. OTTO CYCLE
In Otto cycle, heat addition take p hilace at constant volume at stage 2-3. Heat rejection take place at constant volume at stage 4-1.
1-2:- Isentropic Compression.
2-3:- Heat addition at constant volume.
3-4:- Isentropic Expansion.
4-1:- Heat rejection at constant volume.

  • Main Components Of Two-Stroke Engines-
  1. Crankshaft.
  2. Connecting Rod.
  3. Piston.
  4. Cylinder.
  5. Inlet port.
  6. Transport port.
  7. Exhaust port.
  8. Crankpin,Piston Pin.
  9. Spark plug.

How Two-Stroke Engines Works?

Here are two main strokes of two-stroke engines i.e.
1) Upward Stroke.
2)Downward Stroke.
On which two two stroke engines works.

  • Downward Stroke-
  1. In downward stroke piston's position at TDC of cynider. As the piston moves from TDC (Top Dead Center) to BDC (Bottom Dead Center). The air-fuel get compressed which enters in cylinder from inlet port.
  2. When piston reaches at BDC compressed air-fuel mixture go at top of cylinder from transport port.

  • Upward Stroke-
  1. Before the end of piston reaches towards TDC, spark plug create spark in cylinder & combustion is air-fuel mixture take place.
  2. As the piston again moves towards BDC all exhaust gases passes away from Exhaust Port.

Why Two-Stroke Engines are not in used?

1)As per emission norms i.e.BS-VI, it is compulsory for automotive industry to manufacture vehicles as per emission norms set.                                                      2) It's too difficult to manufacture this BS-VI vehicles with two-stroke engines it produces more  emission.                          3) Another major problem is that it's Mist Lubrication System. As we know oil sump is not present two-stroke engines. In two stroke engines we need to add everytime Engine 2Toil + gasoline in fuel tank. This is major drawback of two-stroke engines.

  • Interesting Fact-
Two-stroke engines produces more power as compare to four-stroke engines.
